Conflict, World War 3 and the Warden of the North

Conflict, World War 3 and the Warden of the North

March 11, 2019

Could we have World War III? Or are we already there? What is the role of Atlantic Canada, The Warden of the North? Is populism a risk? There are different kinds of conflict as well. What role does propaganda play? The Russians used it and arguably, still use it very well. Yes, sorry, we do touch on Trump.

We mostly stay on topic. Are we entertaining ourselves to death? Will legal cannabis have an impact? Will you buy more snack food? We also talk about the Deifenbunker in Truro, a former Cold War shelter that serves as a business today.

Are we risk averse in Atlantic Canada?

We didn't have Big Data centuries ago, but at one time we had cities larger than New York City. We've actually taken a lot of risk over the centuries. We ramble about technologies, Alexander Graham Bell, how Amherst was a shipbuilding centre, food indexes, our relationship with the Caribbean, economic suppression, being a Come-From-Away (CFA) and more...we're tribal too...we cover a lot of ground. We have a lot of potential. Join us.

Big Infrastructure and big ideas on big infrastructure. Way out.

Building a hyper loop connecting Atlantic Canada to the U.S. Eastern seaboard? Building a bridge between Cape Breton and Newfoundland? Or something more prosaic? Giant snake wave energy devices that also catch plastic? Maybe some dystopian ideas too? We go down some interesting rabbit holes with Romans dying of sepsis and the Handmaids Tale and what does it all have to do with tattoos anyway?

Big Education and Big Ideas in Atlantic Canada

Big Education and Big Ideas in Atlantic Canada

Will universities in Atlantic Canada be gone? Or maybe we're coming up with some really good ideas? We're not a meritocracy and maybe that's good for creativity? We've got a lot of universities and they're doing some neat things. We ramble on, with some ideas and maybe some contrary thoughts...oh a sports and David's fancy prep school experience in the States. With some sparks from Mike on Newfoundland. Join us!

Atlantic Canada A Big Laboratory?

Atlantic Canada A Big Laboratory?

October 20, 2018

Atlantic Canada is, surprisingly to some, a rather remarkable place. Hanging precariously out into the Atlantic ocean. A region that holds many world firsts and is considered the Warden of the North. In this episode, we sort of wander about that. Our topic, loosely, is turning the region into a sort of laboratory. We do however, tend to go down some rabbit holes.
